Wagering Requirements: Turnover, Game Contribution and Minimum Odds
A wagering requirement (also called rollover or playthrough) tells you how much you must stake before a bonus becomes withdrawable money. It is the most important number in any bonus offer. On this page we break it into parts and calculate it in euros — for sports and for the casino.
What the multiple is based on
The same “35x” can mean very different turnover depending on its base. With a €100 bonus and a €100 deposit:
| Wagering base | Calculation | Turnover required |
|---|---|---|
| Bonus only | €100 × 35 | €3,500 |
| Deposit plus bonus | €200 × 35 | €7,000 |
| Free spin winnings | winnings × multiple | depends on the win |
The gap between the first two rows is double the turnover — and double the expected loss.
Game contribution in the casino
Games don't count equally towards wagering. Slots often contribute the full stake, table games and live casino partly or not at all. If a game contributes 10%, a €10 bet counts as €1. To clear €3,500 on such a game you would have to stake €35,000. The contribution table is usually in the bonus terms and worth finding before you start.
Wagering on sports bonuses
In sports betting there is usually a minimum odds rule for the slip or each selection, for example 1.50. Bets at lower odds don't count. Sometimes cashed-out or voided bets don't count either. On accumulators a minimum price may apply to each leg. Terms vary, so read them in full.
Expected loss: the key calculation
Expected loss while wagering = turnover required × margin (betting) or × (100% − RTP) (casino). Examples:
- €50 sports bonus, 5x bonus, 5% margin: €250 × 5% = €12.50 — positive theoretical value.
- €100 casino bonus, 35x bonus, 96% RTP: €3,500 × 4% = €140 — in theory you pay more than you get.
- €100 casino bonus, 35x deposit plus bonus: €7,000 × 4% = €280.
The calculation doesn't tell you what will happen to you — variance can be large. It tells you whether the offer is good value on average.
Time limit and maximum bet
The time limit sets how many days you have to reach the turnover. A short window with a high turnover pushes you to play a lot, fast — exactly what responsible play tries to avoid. The maximum bet while wagering caps how much you may stake at once; breaking it can void the bonus and winnings. More terms are covered on the bonus terms page.
A quick wagering checklist
- Find the multiple and its base, and work out the turnover in euros.
- Check the contribution of the games or the minimum odds of the bets you actually play.
- Divide the turnover by the days allowed to see your daily workload.
- Multiply the turnover by the margin or house edge for the expected loss.
